GENERAL QUESTIONS
WHAT IS CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY?
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE CONSCIOUS MIND AND THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND?
HOW DOES HYPNOTHERAPY WORK AND WHAT MAKES IT SUCCESSFUL?
IS HYPNOTHERAPY SAFE?
Yes, hypnotherapy is generally considered safe when conducted by a trained and certified therapist. It is a non-invasive treatment method.
WHAT CONDITIONS CAN HYPNOTHERAPY TREAT?
Hypnotherapy can help with anxiety, stress, depression, pain management, phobias, insomnia, weight loss, smoking cessation, and more.
SESSIONS & PROCESS
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY FIRST SESSION?
In your first session, the therapist will conduct an intake interview to understand your concerns and goals and provide an overview of the hypnotherapy process. If appropriate, a hypnosis session may be initiated.
HOW LONG DOES A TYPICAL SESSION LAST?
Sessions typically last 60-90 minutes, but this can vary depending on individual needs and treatment goals.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The number of sessions required varies based on the individual and the issue being addressed. Some may see improvements in just a few sessions, while others may require longer treatment.
WILL I BE ASLEEP DURING HYPNOTHERAPY?
No, you will be fully aware and in control during hypnosis. It’s a relaxed state of focused attention, not unconsciousness.
EFFECTIVENESS & EXPERIENCE
HOW EFFECTIVE IS HYPNOTHERAPY?
The effectiveness of hypnotherapy can vary among individuals. Many people report positive outcomes, especially when combined with other therapeutic approaches.
WILL I REMEMBER MY HYPNOTHERAPY SESSION?
Most individuals retain memories of the session. However, some may only remember certain parts or feel a sense of clarity regarding their experiences.
CAN ANYONE BE HYPNOTIZED?
Yes, Anyone can be hypnotized. A client would need to agree to being put in a relaxed state and open to changes they wish to make. Any doubts can hinder the effectiveness and the number of sessions a client would need to be successful in treating the issue.
DOES HYPNOTHERAPY WORK IF SOMEONE ELSE WOULD LIKE ME TO BE HYPNOTIZED TO MAKE CHANGES?
Hypnotherapy will only work if you are ready and willing to make a change, not if someone else wants you to change. A hypnotherapist can not make or suggest anything that the client's conscious and subconscious mind does not want to do or change.
CONCERNS & MISCONCEPTIONS
IS CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY THE SAME AS STAGE HYPNOSIS, OR THE SAME AS I HAVE SEEN IN MOVIES?
No, stage hypnosis, and what you have seen in the movies, is for entertainment purposes and has no basis in treatment of any kind, whether it be medical, mental, or physical in nature. Clinical hypnotherapy is used for changing negative beliefs, achieving goals, self-improvement, chronic pain, getting over fears and phobias, anxiety, relationship goals, focus, sports improvement, educational success, and corporate success, among hundreds of other treatments.
CAN A HYPNOTHERAPIST MAKE ME DO SOMETHING I WOULD NOT WANT TO DO?
No, a hypnotherapist can not make you do anything you do not want to do. Hypnotherapy only works when the client makes the suggestions to themself. The client informs the hypnotherapist what changes they would like to make, and the hypnotherapist relays that information to the client's subconscious mind. Humans can not access their subconscious mind with their conscious mind.
WILL I LOSE CONTROL DURING HYPNOSIS?
No, you will not lose control. You are in a cooperative state (one that you agree to), and you choose what suggestions you would like to give yourself. The hypnotherapist is there to relax you to the point where your subconscious can accept your suggestions.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Hypnotherapy is generally safe, but some people might feel drowsy or disoriented after a session. These effects are usually temporary.
PREPARATION
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY SESSION?
Arrive with an open mind, having considered your therapy goals. It can be helpful to avoid heavy meals or stimulants before your appointment.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR FOR MY SESSION?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to relax, as comfort is essential during the session.
DO YOU OFFER SESSIONS ONLINE?
Yes. I see my clients through telehealth and Zoom.
FINANCIAL INFORMATION
WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?
Fees can vary based on location, experience, and the complexity of the service provided. It’s best to inquire directly with the practice for specific rates.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
Some insurance plans may cover hypnotherapy. It’s recommended to check with your provider and the practice regarding coverage and billing.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY? Policies may vary, but it's common to require 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Please confirm specific terms with your therapist.
